You do not need to be "sponsored" by a real estate firm, nor do you need to be a Florida resident or even a US resident. You do have to meet some minimum qualifications (http://www.realestate-school.com/qualifications.shtml), take a FREC approved prelicensing course, (http://www.realestate-school.com/courses/online-sales-associate-prelicense-course-63-hour-timeline.shtml) and then pass the state exam.
