Florida Real Estate Exam Statistics - January, 2007

The Florida real estate exam remains a formidable challenge for would-be sales associates and brokers. Candidates for a real estate license should not underestimate the difficulty level of the Florida test. In January, 2007, 4306 candidates for a sales associate license sat for the exam. Those who were taking the exam for the first time (1891) had a pass rate of 44 percent, a little below the last year’s average pass rate of 46%. So it’s still true that only about four in ten people sitting for the exam passed. Retesting statistics are even worse: 72 percent of the 2415 sales associate candidates retaking the exam fail.

Florida’s 306 broker candidates taking the exam for the first time did about the same, with a 44 percent pass rate. But only 35 percent of the re-takers were successful.

During 2005 and 2006, Florida’s pass rate fluctuated between 42 percent and 48 percent. The moral of the story? Study and prepare carefully. If you don’t pass the first time, go back again soon and as often as possible or you may forget what you’ve learned. If you haven’t bought exam prep material or taken a “cram” course, perhaps you should do so.

There will be a little less new competition for existing Florida licensees. The number of license applicants sitting for the Florida sales associate state exam is declining. For example, in January, 2007 the number of sales associate candidates taking the test for the first time declined by 45 percent (1,891 candidates, compared to 3393 candidates in January, 2006).
